Why I Tested Samsung's AI Notification Summaries
Do you get too many notifications on your phone every day? If you use a modern Samsung Galaxy phone, you might know about its new Artificial Intelligence (AI) features. One of the coolest tools is the AI notification summary.
Instead of reading twenty messages from your messaging apps, the phone reads them for you. Then, it gives you one short sentence. It tells you the main point of the chat.
I wanted to see if this feature actually works in real life. So, I turned it on and used it for two weeks straight. I wanted to know if it saves time or just causes confusion. The results were very interesting. While it is great for some things, it completely broke when I opened my busy group chats!
How the AI Summary Feature Works
Before we talk about the good and the bad, let us look at how the feature works. Samsung puts this tool inside its Galaxy AI suite. When you get a lot of alerts from the same app, the phone steps in.
You see a small card on your lock screen or in your notification shade. It does not show every single message. Instead, it shows a neat little summary box.
Here is what the AI is supposed to do:
- Combine many messages into one short sentence.
- Save you time so you do not stare at your screen for too long.
- Help you catch up fast when you are busy at work or school.
On paper, this sounds amazing. Who does not want a smart assistant to sort through the digital noise?
The Good Parts: It Shines with Direct Messages
For the first few days, I tested the feature with normal, one-on-one text messages. This is where the AI does a really good job.
Imagine your friend sends you five short messages in a row. They might say:
- "Hey."
- "Are you free tonight?"
- "Let us grab pizza."
- "Around 7 PM?"
- "Let me know."
- Keep it on for normal apps: It works great for email, news apps, and direct text messages.
- Turn it off for busy group chats: If you are in a very active group chat, turn off summaries for that specific app. Otherwise, you will miss important details or get the wrong idea.
Instead of showing all five bubbles, Samsung's AI gave me a clean summary: "Friend wants to grab pizza with you tonight at 7 PM."
That was super helpful. I could read the summary in one second. I did not even have to unlock my phone. For simple chats and work emails, the tool works just like magic.
Where It All Falls Apart: The Group Chat Problem
Everything changed when I looked at my active group chats. If you are in a family chat or a group with your best friends, you know how crazy it gets. People talk about dinner plans, send funny memes, and argue about movies all at the same time.
During busy hours, messages pour in faster than I can read them. And this is exactly where the AI broke down.
Because group chats jump from one topic to another very quickly, the AI gets confused. Here is a real example of what happened to me:
My friends were talking about a football game. Suddenly, someone changed the subject to a weekend trip. Two minutes later, another person started talking about a broken car.
What did the Samsung AI tell me? It gave me a strange summary that mixed everything together. It said: "Friends are driving to the football game in a broken car."
That made no sense at all! My friends were not driving to a game in a broken car. The AI just mashed three different conversations into one funny, but totally wrong, sentence.
Why Does the AI Struggle with Groups?
Why does this happen? Artificial intelligence is smart, but it does not think like a human. It tries to find patterns in text. When humans chat in a group, we use inside jokes, sarcasm, and quick topic changes.
The phone cannot tell when one topic ends and a new one begins. It just sees a big block of text. As a result, the summary loses its true meaning. Sometimes, it leaves out important details. Other times, it invents things that nobody even said.
Should You Use Samsung AI Notification Summaries?
After testing this feature for two weeks, what is my final verdict? Should you turn it on?
Yes, but you need to use it with care. Here is my advice:
Samsung and other phone makers are still learning. AI is a new technology, and it gets better with every software update. I hope Samsung fixes the group chat problem soon.
